Description
These field recordings were made in Teandore Woods, (a.k.a. Oak Woods, or Urquhart Woods) near Urquhart Cemetery on the Black Isle in the Scottish Highlands on 24th March 2022. This is a typically beautiful Highland wood, with parts feeling quite ancient and unspoilt. The wood is fairly small, but it is a fantastic area to get peace and tranquillity. There is a handy guide to the wood here, where it is called Drummondreach woods : https://www.geograph.org.uk/geotrips/1234
While mainly focused on the stream and surrounding woodlands, these recordings also feature birdsong, woodpeckers, and a little distant farm machinery and distant roads. The sound of the woodland stream, birdsong, the light rustling of leaves and gentle breezes in the trees are the dominant sounds throughout, although at times the occasional passing traffic is very clear. This is a very relaxing set, with little sense of human presence.
All tracks are seamlessly loopable, making a perfect backdrop for exhibitions, performances, relaxation, meditation, sleep, etc.
The “Birds and Woodpecker” tracks have birds and woodpeckers over the sound of the running stream. Occasionally, in the distance, single cars and motorbikes can be heard, and the recordings then return to nature. The “Woodland Stream” tracks were recorded much closer to the stream, and birdsong and traffic noises are much more in the background. The “Airplane Overhead” tracks were separated off to so that they can be used on their own, if needed, without disturbing the peace and nature focus of the main recordings.
