Squlech

£5.00

A fun, simple retro sci-fi instrument ideal for sound design and experimental fun. Ideal for techno and acid tracks, or retro video games sounds!

Description

This is a fun, simple instrument made from 98 separate synth ‘squelch’ samples, originally sampled to a Roland SP-555. The samples have been carefully edited and rearranged to make 3 individual Simpler instruments that range from a squelchy synth to an 8 bit random sound effects generator. All instruments are fun and highly configurable. Each has controls to vary white noise, bitcrushing and saturation.

Play the demos below to get a sense of the possibilities offered by these instruments. (The second demo was created using semi-random generative techniques, while the first includes a drum sample from a Noiiz loop pack. The Squelch instrument does not include the drum loop. Otherwise, nothing but stock Live effects have been added (Echo, Bitcrush, Erosion, and Saturation).

The instruments range from a conventionally playable synth to a random noise machine. All instruments evoke elements of video game effects and classic robotic/computer sound effects.

This is an ideal sound design instrument, perfect for experimenting with effects and adding an 8 bit atmosphere to tracks, while remaining different enough from similarly styled synth sounds to stand out. With plenty of variations and minor random adjustments, the 3 flavours of Squelch all produce a lively, subtly evolving sound.

Please note that this pack requires Ableton Live 11, due to the use of 10 macro controls.
